Guide to Automatically Creating Product Groups by Title

Guide to Automatically Creating Product Groups by Title

1. When to Use Automated Product Grouping

Manually grouping products suits small inventories but becomes inefficient for large ones. Automation shines when product titles share a consistent structure, such as:

  • iPhone 15 Pro Max 12GB / 1TB - Black
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max 12GB / 1TB - White
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max 12GB / 1TB - Gold

Using title-based automation, you can quickly group related products, saving time and reducing manual effort.

2. Steps to Create Product Groups Automatically

Follow these steps to set up automated product groups based on title patterns:

Step 1: Access the Product Groups Interface

Navigate to the product groups management section and click the “Create group” button.

Step 2: Select Automation Option

Choose “Automation By Title” from the four available options.

Step 3: Enter Required Information

In the automated group creation interface, provide:

  • Product Title Pattern: Define the pattern for grouping (e.g., <product_name>). See section 3 for details.
  • Appearance on Product Page/Card: Select how options display (e.g., Button, Pill Button, Circle Swatch, Square Swatch).
  • Variant Name: Specify the grouping option (e.g., “Color” for Black, White, Gold).
  • Activate New Groups: Toggle OFF to review groups before publishing, or ON to publish immediately.

Step 4: Run the Automation

Click “Run automation.” The process duration depends on the number of products in your store and may take longer with larger inventories. Once complete, you’ll be redirected to the product groups management interface.

3. Defining the Product Title Pattern

To group products, define a title pattern that captures the shared base name and variations, using <product_name> for the common part and <type> for the variant.

Example 1:

  • Titles:
    • iPhone 15 Pro Max 12GB / 1TB - Black
    • iPhone 15 Pro Max 12GB / 1TB - White
    • iPhone 15 Pro Max 12GB / 1TB - Red
  • Pattern<product_name> - <type>
    • <product_name>: iPhone 15 Pro Max 12GB / 1TB
    • <type>: Black, White, Red

Example 2:

  • Titles:
    • Men's Golf Polo / Red
    • Men's Golf Polo / White
    • Men's Golf Polo / Black
  • Pattern<product_name> / <type>
    • <product_name>: Men's Golf Polo
    • <type>: Red, White, Black

Tips:

  • Ensure consistent titles (e.g., avoid “Men's Golf Polo” vs. “Men's golf polo”).
  • Standardize naming to prevent grouping errors.
