How to Set up a Google Search Account for your Shopify stores

Google Search Console is one of the most important tools in your digital marketing toolkit. It helps you maximize your visibility in Google search results by showing you what’s working and what’s broken on your site. (Shopify, 2024). 


This article will guide you through steps to create your GSC account in the easiest way. Let’s dive in now! 

1. Create a Google Search Console Account

You need to create an account to start using Google Search Console for your Shopify store. Follow these steps:

Once logged in, you can add your Shopify site to GSC.

2. Enter a Property Type

After Click on ‘Start Now,’ you access this pop-up:


Type in your Shopify store URL address (e.g. https://tapita.myshopify.com/) in the URL prefix Property type property type. Then click ‘Continue’. 

3. Verify Ownership of Your Shopify Site

Next, to fully access GSC's features, you must verify ownership of your Shopify website. 

  • Option 1. Using HTML tag.

Here are the steps:

Step 1: In Google Search Console, select ‘HTML tag’ as the verification method. This is the simplest method to verify your account. 

Step 2: Copy the provided meta tag.

Step 3: Log in to your Shopify admin account and go to ‘Online Store > Themes’.

Step 4: Click the ‘...’ button > Edit Code.

Step 5: Locate the ‘theme.liquid’ file and paste the HTML tag between the <head> tags.

Step 6: Save the changes and return to GSC to click ‘Verify’.
