Swatch Management Guide

Swatch Management Guide

1. Introduction

In the Option Appearance Management Guide, we covered how the display of an option is not limited to just the appearance style but also includes colors, images, or other visual elements. When creating a product group, it’s often necessary to manually input colors or images, even for repeated values. For instance, if you are creating 100 groups using the option value "Red", you would have to enter the color code #ff0000 100 times, which is both tedious and inefficient.

Additionally, there may be instances where you need to change the color code across multiple product groups—for example, updating the color of "Red" from #ff0000 to #ff1111. This process must be done manually for each group, which can be cumbersome.

To address these challenges, the Swatch Management feature has been introduced.

2. Swatch Management

For options that have a Swatch appearance, there will be a gear icon button, allowing you to customize the swatches associated with that option.

Clicking on the gear icon will take you to the Swatch Management interface, where you can manage the swatches for the selected option.

The Swatch Management interface contains the following information:

  • Value Name: The name of the option value for the group.
  • Display Style: The type of swatch display, which can be one of the following:
    • 1 Color: A single color swatch.
    • 2 Color: A swatch with two colors.
    • Custom Image: A swatch with a custom image.
  • 1st Color / 2nd Color: Colors displayed in the swatch for "1 Color" and "2 Color" display styles.
  • Custom Image: The image displayed in the swatch for the "Custom Image" display style.

These configurations define how the swatches will appear on the storefront. You can create new swatches by clicking the New swatch button in the top right corner of the interface.

Case Use: Bulk Update Style for Swatches

When you change the configuration for a swatch, you will be prompted with a notification asking if you would like to apply the changes to all related product groups.

If you choose "Yes", the configuration for all Product Groups using that option value (swatch) will be updated automatically, saving time and ensuring consistency across your store.

Case Use: Automatically Suggest Swatch Styles When Creating a Group

If a Swatch Config has already been set for an option, when creating a new Product Group using that option and option value, the system will automatically apply the corresponding swatch style. This eliminates the need for manual configuration, ensuring consistency and speeding up the product group creation process.

Conclusion

The Swatch Management feature simplifies the process of managing swatches for product options, improving efficiency when creating or updating product groups. By configuring swatch styles once and applying them automatically, you can save time and maintain consistency across your store.
