Adding New Languages via Shelly AI

Adding languages to your chatbox is super easy with Shelly AI's interface. Let’s follow these steps!

  • Steps:

    1. Head to the 'Localization' tab in the Shelly AI dashboard. Click ‘here’ as in this below screenshot to go to Shopify Languages settings. 

  1. Click 'Add language', or ‘Import’ upload a CSV file of your translations. 

  1. Pick a language from the dropdown (e.g., 'Spanish', 'Mandarin').

  2. Confirm and save to set it up.

Auto Translation of Chatbox Content

At the tab ‘Localization’ in Shelly AI Chatbot, choose your newly created language to start translating all the text that will be visible to your customers on the storefront.

Next, choose the sections you want to translate.

Click ‘Auto translate’ and let Shelly AI do the hard work for you. 

Manual Translation of Chatbox Content

Choose this if you want to translate all chatbox content—like welcome messages, FAQs, and preset questions—to match each language.

The process is relatively similar to auto translation, but this time you have to type in the translations for all sections. 

Best Practices for Translations

Make your translations pop with these tips:

  • Keep It Natural: Use conversational phrases that match local slang or tone. E.g., for Spanish, use '¡Genial!' instead of a stiff 'Great!'.

  • Match Brand Voice: Keep translations consistent with your brand—fun for casual stores, polished for luxury.

  • Test for Clarity: Go to ‘Sales channels’, select ‘Online Store’, click the eye icon to view your online store in different languages.

Use this mode to scan and ensure your translations read smoothly.

  • Cultural Fit: Avoid phrases or idioms that don’t vibe in other cultures (e.g., avoid 'home run' in non-US markets).

  • Short & Sweet: Keep translations concise, like 'Envío en 3-5 días' instead of wordy alternatives.

  • Double-Check: If using Shelly’s expert service, review for brand accuracy.

With localized content, your Shelly AI Chatbot will feel like a local to every customer, making shopping a breeze worldwide!
