Set up your Volume Discounts & Quantity Disscount (Horizontal layout)

What is the Horizontal layout?

Horizontal layout is one of the ready-made templates for Volume Discounts (Quantity Discounts) in G: Volume Discounts. It offers tiered discounts based on the quantity of the same product a customer buys, and displays each tier side by side in a row, making it easy for customers to compare tiers at a glance.

Example: Buy 3+ items and save 10%, Buy 6+ and save 15%, Buy 9+ and save 20%, all shown next to each other on your product page.

This layout also comes with an extra set of price display options (in the Advanced tab) that the other two layouts, Stack and Table, don't have, including the ability to show a compare-at (strikethrough) price on each tier. We'll walk through that in detail below.

Volume Discounts (Horizontal layout)

Step 1: Create the offer

  1. Go to Apps > G: Volume Discounts > Offers > Volume Discounts/Quantity Discounts tab.
  2. Find the Horizontal card and click Create offer.

Once your offer is created, you'll land on the offer builder, where you'll configure everything across 3 tabs: Discount Tiers tab, Design tab, and Advanced tab. Let's go through each one.

Step 2: Discount Tiers tab

  1. Name: give your offer an internal name (e.g. "Black Friday Sales"). Only visible to you in the Shopify backend, customers won't see it.
  2. Priority: if you're running more than one offer at once, type a number to control which one applies first, the higher the number, the higher the priority
  3. Status: choose Active to turn the offer on for your storefront, or Draft to keep it hidden while you're still setting it up.

4. Widget Title & Widget Subtitle: enter the heading and subheading text customers see above the tiers (e.g. "BUY MORE, SAVE MORE" / "Add items to your cart to start unlocking discounts!"). Click the eye icon next to a field to hide it from customers.
5. Apply to Products: choose who this offer applies to,
  1. All Products: applies storewide.
  2. Specific Product: search and pick individual products.
  3. Product Segment: target products by tag, type, vendor, or collection.
  4. Exclude Products: apply to all products except the ones you pick.

6. Offer Tiers: click + Add Tier to add a new tier, or click the trash icon on a tier to remove it, you can have as many tiers as you like. For each tier, fill in:
  1. Title: the name shown on the tier (e.g. "Buy 3+").
  2. Min Quantity / Max Quantity: the quantity range that unlocks this tier (e.g. min 3, max 5). Max Quantity is optional, click Remove if you don't need an upper limit.
  3. Discount Type & Discount Value (Per Item): choose Percentage Discount, Fixed Discount, or Fixed product price, then enter the value.
  4. Badge Text: the small label shown on the tier (e.g. "10% OFF").

Use the Preview panel on the right as you go to see exactly how each tier will look to customers.

Step 3: Design tab

  1. Preset: pick from ready-made design presets (e.g. Basic, Summer, Midnight, Forest) to change the overall look in one click. Switch to Palette to fine-tune colors on top of your chosen preset.
  2. Widget layout: use the sliders to adjust Tier padding, Tier spacing, Horizontal padding, Vertical padding, and Widget spacing.
  3. Widget background/Tier background: choose None (transparent), Color, or Gradient for the widget's and each tier's background.

4. Setting colors: fine-tune individual colors one by one, Widget border, Tier border, Widget title, Widget subtitle, Tier title, Tier badge, Tier badge background, Sale price, Compare price, Unit price.
5. Typography: adjust font size for Widget title, Widget subtitle, Tier title, Tier badge, Tier price, Tier compare price, and Tier unit price.

Check the Preview panel as you adjust each setting to make sure the widget matches your store's branding.

Step 4: Advanced tab

This section is only available on Horizontal layout.

  1. Price rounding: cleans up the decimal on your discounted price (None, .99, .95, .90, .x9, .x0, .00).
  2. Type compare, controls the strikethrough price shown next to your tier price:
    • Show compare price: shows the product's Compare-at price.
    • Show product price: shows the product's regular selling price.
    • Hidden: no strikethrough price.
Example: regular price $190, Compare-at price $250, tier discounts it to $180.
    • Show compare price → $250 $̶̶̶𝟣̶̶̶𝟪̶̶̶𝟢̶̶̶
    • Show product price → $190 $̶̶̶𝟣̶̶̶𝟪̶̶̶𝟢̶̶̶
Note: Compare-at price is set per product on Shopify, not every product has one. If it's missing, the widget automatically falls back to showing the regular price instead.
  3. Show price, Total price, Per unit price, or Both. Example: $10/item, tier "Buy 2, save 10%" → total $18, per unit $9. When Per unit or Both is selected, you can customize the unit label (e.g. "/item", "/pack").
  4. Widget Position: Above/Below the Add to cart button, or Custom Position (CSS selector).
  5. Schedule: Run continuously, or Run on schedule (set start/end date).
  6. Translation: choose a published store language to translate widget text into.
